More parallels between the current Mundial/World Cup soccer/football and
double reed playing
(1) The coaches (read:conductor's) faith in the player has resulted in two
goals after two games of lethargy. (Dispelling the myth of the conductor who
treats his musicians as if "you are only as good as your last concert")
(2) The soccer players (substitute :double reed players) are only beginning
to adapt to playing with each other after three full games. They complain to
the press that "we are used to playing with other players" trying to explain
why their performance has been modified in the first two games.
(3) The media --substitute musical public and orchestral or university
administration--which called for a young player to substitute the older
striker (read first oboist /bassoonist) --because he was"over the
hill" --now adores the striker (read first double reed player) after his
outstanding performance in the third game.
(4) Many goalies and others are complaining that the football/soccer
ball---which is now lighter--has influenced their game ,for the worse.
Parallel:Older oboists and bassoonists complain that when they first got in
the music "game" reeds were heavier and wider while today they are lighter
and thinner, influencing their "play" for the worse. Some complain that oboes
and bassoons have changed...ihn their opinion for the worse.
A fine weekend!
