Subj: [DR-L] Oboe Maintenance
Date: Tue, 06 Jun 2006 17:33:00 -0400

Hello. This is my first time posting on this list. We live in a small
town in Hawaii where there are no oboe instructors much less people who
do oboe repairs. My daughter has a three year old Patricio Professional
S6, which we purchased for her when she started High School. As far as I
know, she is having no problems with the oboe. We are making a trip to
Vancouver, British Columbia this summer and will be there for a week.
Should we take it with us for a maintenance check over at this time? Is
it necessary? And if we should, do any of you know of a good oboe repair
person who would be able to look at the instrument within a week? We
travel a fair bit, but we're never in a large city for a long period of
time. I am thinking that we should leave well enough alone but remember
reading that consistent maintenance is the way to go. I don't like
mailing it off to someplace, as this takes time and the oboe is almost
always in use. We also live in an extremely humid climate and I don't
know how the oboe would react to being dried out. Thank you ahead of
time for any advice that can be given

Jean
