Dear list members,
the communal music school of Augsburg ( Albert-Greiner-Sing- und Musikschule
der Stadt Augsburg) is planning to newly offer oboe lessons starting from
the coming school year. The school doesn't have oboes yet and plans to buy
some now. Since there are some very competitive offers right now in Germany
for this model, we are considering the purchase of Buffet 4052 instruments.
I play a professional Buffet Prestige oboe myself and I'm quite happy with
it. However, I recently received a warning that these student instruments
would be mechanically very inferior to the professional Buffets and would be
likely to develop a lot of problems after a very short use. The only
colleague I know who is teaching students playing Buffet student oboes
states to have never had such problems yet. But before making the decision
of what to buy I would appreciate to hear of more experiences with Buffet
student oboes in general and the 4052 in particular. Thank you very much in
advance for your help!
Best regards,
Gerhard Veith
Augsburg, Germany
