And herein lies a tale...
A few years ago I needed to hear the Schubert C Major String Quintet.=20
Can't explain it; I just NEEDED to hear the piece. Anyway, record shops=20=

in Hong Kong being what they are, the only recording I could find was=20
an old historic performance with Heifetz, Piatigorsky, Primrose, etc.=20
And let me tell you, that is, not INACCURATE playing, and certainly in=20=

many places BRILLIANT playing, but oy va voy, don't try to figure out=20
what the rhythm's actually supposed to be!

But it satisfied my need.

Recently I was in the record shop again and came across a Cleveland=20
Quartet recording, which I bought. I was almost SHOCKED by the=20
difference! (But now I know that those are really triplets off a tie in=20=

that place...) I had gotten so accustomed to the 1961 performance that=20=

I found a modern one quite jarring. And the difference in tempi in the=20=

second movement!

Now, of course, I love it... and it didn't take very long. You don't=20
have to be dry to be accurate.
Best, all,
Rhondda
Hong Kong (not long for)
