This reminds me of the time, 30 years ago, when I lent my LP of Gomberg=20
playing Britten Metamorphosis, Phantasy Quartet and Mozart Quartet to a=20
math professor at my High School who was a big Mozart fan. I was=20
curious what he would think of the Britten, but all I got was a=20
10-minute tirade about how all the players should be lined up and shot=20
for the "sloppiness" in their execution of the Mozart. He was quite=20
passionate on the subject, and it made a big, cautionary impression on=20
me. I confess, I enjoyed the Mozart interpretation, but I always think=20
of this fellow when I get a Mozart part to play and try to keep it=20
"clean" for his sake.
I never did hear what he thought of the Britten. Those pieces and that=20
performance were a great inspiration for me.

Dear DRList:
Am preparing in this year of Mozart, the wonderful Quartet for oboe and
string trio again. Have played this masterwork a number of times and my
chief references are recordings by Goosens, Holliger and Ray Still.
As I am always trying to =C3=BCpdate"my act---if update is the correct
term--would appreciate any input on new recordings, new outlooks and /or
theories on the performance of this Mozart opus.
Best regards,
Harold Emert
