If you try to notify Ebay about a suspected fraud, they will send you a
generic email saying they will look into it, etc., etc., etc.

A few months back, several of us tried to alert Ebay that one of the oboes
stolen from MMI was at that very moment being hawked on Ebay -- the serial
number was visible in the photo, and the seller (who obviously knew nothing
about oboes) was in Minneapolis. They still would take no action, unless 1) the
oboe belonged to one of us who was complaining AND 2) we had filed a police
report.

We let MMI know about it. I don't know what ever became of that. More than
likely, someone got a very nice new Loree for bottom dollar, and the thief
made off with his take.

The only time I have ever gotten an apparent response from Ebay in regard to
a fraudulent listing was when I -- and probably a thousand others --
notified them about that UK seller who lists something like 500 high end instruments
with prices all starting at $1.00. I have noticed now that every time that
shyster pops up again, the listings get taken down asap.

Caveat vendor, emptor, et alii.

Susan
