To The People Of New Orleans

Out of tragedy is born new life
Out of the streets of New Orleans
The silent sound of ghostly trumpets
Soothes the souls of spirits long gone
People have to deal with being a refugee
In their own City
The beauty of food and water
Is just an apparition of need
Seen in the minds of hungry people
Weep not Brothers and Sisters
And we weep too
For the sweet music will be played
On the streets of a new New Orleans

-Allan James Saywell
American poet
September 2005
