There are so many good players from all sorts of "Schools" Hey we all
have our preference as to everything we do in this world, including what
oboe or other instrument sound or style we like. We would seriously not be
very good players if we had no idea where aurally or stylically were were
headed.
There are some oboe sounds I absolutely hate, I would never want to sound
like that.... and even I lot that I like, that I would not want to sound
like - but I hope that I am never guilty of rubbishing them. They may
have fantastic musicality and phrasing (such as Sarah Francis) or have a
great sylistic sense (Such as Glaetzner or Helmut Hucke).
Thats part of the joy of listening to music - always something new to hear.
Look out for any Karl Steins - he used to play with the Berlin
Philharmonic - especially when Karl Bohm was conducting Mozart.....the
recordings are old and not easy to obtain, but are a revelation.
Happy music making

I only have one of Heinz Holliger's CDs and its not
Bad at all. I honestly expected something horribly
Freakish when I got it, but it really is very lovely
(The Graun, Krebs, and Telemann Concertos).
I sincerely did mean quite well in that respect.
This whole notion of schools is a new concept to me.
Though I have taken lessons in an "American" school...
I really hadn't the faintest idea I was till a few
Months ago. I always thought eveyone just had their
Own method of teaching. I guess I've been sheltered
From all the trauma of different schools of thought.
Regards,
Stephen
