Subj: [DR-L] A stellar oboe player

Esteemed colleagues,
Last night enroute to a rehearsal, I heard on FM a recording of Slavonic
Dances by Dvorak. There were only two played, but I was stunned by the
beauty of the playing by the Czech Philharmonic oboist. A beautifully rich
and dark sound, yet singing freely over the fine strings. He played the
music as if he truly loved it and he made me a believer in whatever one
would wish to call his style. Sophisticated but not necessarily suave.
Certainly not provincial nor rough, but definitely stylistically assertive
and technically immaculate.
Just damned beautiful; I pulled over to listen so the engine noise in the
Porsche would not get in the way.
Who might this wonderful oboist be?
Thanks,
Herb (I want to play my bassoon like that)
