Hi Miriam,

Yes, the hook is detachable & must be detached so
that the middle joint can lay flat in the case. I
would have to concur with the third review from
123music. If you have the bread, better to go for
the pricey model, which has, I believe, a metal arm
branching off the bracket which holds the corked pad
(in contact with the right thumb). You get what
you pay for.
