The prominent band composer Vaclav Nelhybel wrote an interesting piece
that might fill the bill. I played it about 40 years ago, and for the
moment, I can't remember the title. It is for band with bass-baritone
soloist, but no chorus. There is one interesting movement written for
double reeds and saxophones only - 3 oboes and English horn, 3 bassoons
and contra, and 5 or 6 saxophones, including soprano and possibly bass.
Possibly someone on the list will recall the title.
