Anyway --here is the body of the message I tried to send and if you
would like the Move On message--please email me privately for that
part.
Thank you,

Dear Lists,
I just had my power restored yesterday and only lost a window, several
trees and most of my fence, and had some leaking in my family
room--(and I was one of the few who had my shutters up.) I got off
easy and was hit here in Miami when Katrina was "only" a category one.
(The meanest "one" I've ever experienced...) Anyway, by Monday, it had
gotten up to 90 degrees in the house and we were more than just
miserable once the kids started school. It all really sucks even when
the city has things moving and organized from the second the storm
hits, your neighbors are wonderful and helpful, and you are able to buy
ice. My children and I were luckily bailed out for the last three days
by my friend whose parents had gone to New York for three weeks and let
us stay in their house until our power was restored. I cannot tell you
what a difference something like that makes. I am crying as I
write--the displacement and the lack of services and the interruption
to your "normal" life is so stressful. I felt like my friend's parents
absolutely saved us. To be in a house with some comfort and sense of
routine is something I'll never again be able to take for granted. AND
I had plenty of food and water and three outfits for each of us to wear
and my car was okay.
The point is--it's a million times worse for those who were hit on the
gulf. I have forwarded this message from Move On to you and my family
in Texas who I know all have guest rooms or suites. If you are within
300 miles of any of the affected areas or Houston (where many thousands
of refugees are) PLEASE consider helping in this not at all simple way.
This will be better than money. I guarantee it. There is a great
built in safety net in the system below and I only wish I lived closer
so I could return the favor that gave me and my children three normal
and blessed days. I am glad my family will do it for me.
Hug your family and be grateful for the small things (like being able
to practice and play)
xo, Kat Sleeper
