Hello, Double Reed List.

On the Viola List, one guy wrote that he is a
member of the LPO, Louisiana Philharmonic
Orchestra, and to the best of his knowledge, all
but one of their members left town before
Hurricane Katrina hit. That one guy was in a tall
building, with the ability to boil water, but they'll
probably have to evacuate him soon, too. (I'd
imagine that the foundations of buildings might
crumble, if they are soaking in deep, filthy water
for weeks, when they weren't designed to
withstand that.)

Meanwhile, here in the hot deserts of Arizona,
my problems with diabetes have gotten a lot
worse lately, but at least I finished my Clarinet
Concerto.

"Concerto for [Bb] Clarinet and Orchestra"
(Aug. 2005, 3 mvts., 30' 27")
Dedicated to Professor Joze Kotar of the
Slovenian Symphony Orchestra.

I Allegretto 13' 00"
(The Cadenza is about 1' 35".)
II Lullaby - Fugato - Lullaby 8' 32"
III Lengthening Rondo 8' 55"
(The Cadenza is about 2' 08".)
Total Time: 30' 27"

2 Flutes, 2 Oboes, 2 Bassoons;
1 Bb Trumpet, 2 Horns in F,
Euphonium and Tuba;
1 Timpanist: 3 Timpani;
1 Percussionist:
Marc Tree;
Glockenspiel;
Tubular Bells;
Castanets;
Slapstick;
Tambourine;
Drum Set:
Medium Suspended Cymbal,
Hi-Hat,
Snare Drum,
Tenor Drum,
Bass Drum;
Harp;
the Solo Bb Clarinet,
and Strings.

Written from May 17, to Late June 2002, and
resumed in February 2005 to August 26, 2005.

I grew up in a family that moved often all over
the US and Europe. I've never lived in New
Orleans, but my mother did when she was small,
and had relatives, who have been there for
generations. Now she's too old and senile to
know that it's all been destroyed, so she is spared
the sorrow, but nothing will ever undo this tragedy
throughout Louisiana, Mississippi and
neighboring areas.

I fear that unknown thousands have died, and
more thousands are dying, or may soon die from
the filthy waters and alligators.

My sorrows and prayers go out to all those
people.
