Try slipping a piece of clear plastic tubing over the banana key. Works
well.

Subject: [DR-L] Raising banana key - oboe

Hi -

Any suggestions as to the best way to raise the banana key (used to play
low
C while keeping the right pinky finger free) about a millimeter or so?
The key
is a bit "sunken" compared to the D, and takes an inordinate amount of
fingure curvature and hand position displacement to get it to go down
the same time
as the D key. If it were just a little higher on my instrument, I'd be
able to
go from E to C (as in, E, C, Db) without getting a bare D before the C.

I did add a bit of cork to the bottom where it contacts the wood, to get
rid
of some play that was in the key. (Maybe should have added to the pad,
instead. Hmmm.) But I'm not sure what to do to make the "finger end"
higher. With
keys like the 2nd octave, they are thin enough one can bend them
manually. The
banana key is a lot thicker than the octave key, and I'm reluctant to
try
bending it. I assume my hands will not be strong enough, and pliers will
mar the
surface.

Should I glue cork onto the bare silver surface? (Using contact cement?)
Or
perhaps something else to the silver?

Thanks in advance for your advice.
