Rhondda,

I believe it's known that Mr. Woodhams often plays a
Yamaha YOB-841 oboe made of kingwood (aka violetwood).
Might it be that's what he was telling you? Kingwood
and grenadilla are are the standard order wood options
for this Yamaha model.
