hi all,

so last night a packed hall in hong kong heard dick woodhams play the
mozart concerto.
even from my seat behind the orchestra, he sounded fabulous. and he's
using a "red-wood" yamaha oboe. really beautiful, colorful,
expressive, gorgeous playing.

i asked him afterwards about the oboe and he called it "canewood" [??]
- dunno what this is but it's certainly worth a surf or two to
discover.

just hope my student was appropriately inspired.

eschenbach, conducting mahler 1 on the 2nd half, was, however, ghastly.

cheers all,

rhondda may
hong kong
yeah, i know there are no caps. in a rush, and keyboard still
suffering results of an assault by a 10-year-old using a deadly glass
of milk.
