Hi Janie,
I think it's like an exercise routine. If you make yourself do it at a
certain time, you hate it for the first 10 minutes. After that, you are
already going, so you might as well keep on. Plus, you feel so good for
having gotten it out of the way.

If I stop playing for a few days, I dread the effort of getting back into
shape. But, the same is true as with exercise. Once you start again,
you'll wonder why you took so much time off.

Maybe to get started, just try 5 minutes of ANYTHING. Understand that you
will probably not be happy with what you can do and what it sounds like. Do
it anyway just to get the feel of it going again. You might be pleasantly
surprised at what your mind has absorbed while your hands were idle.

I hate the idea of practicing, but once I get into my room and put the oboe
together (why does this seem like such a big deal?), I get caught up in the
process and time just slips away.

Good luck and let us know how it goes. Don't beat yourself up too badly.
You're doing this for fun, right?????? Don't forget that part.
Grace
