I am over 50 and have only been playing the bassoon a little over a year. I
also travel for my job. My teacher impressed on me that I should take my
bassoon where ever I go, to any state and simply practice, plan to do that
after work where-ever I am. Needless to say this has maximized my practice
time and gives me something important to do. Plus, I have learned how to
travel with my instrument all over the country. I take practicing for
granted, as I have conquered gladly dragging the bassoon every where. Plus,
this has given me practice in adjusting my reeds for different climates,
etc. It definitely takes motivation, as you need to add another 20 pounds
to your baggage, but to me it is worthwhile. Before I started traveling
with the Bassoon, I agonized over taking it with me, due to my fears of
losing it or damaging it. However my teacher was firm that I just needed to
do it. I am also now comfortable practicing anywhere. You might want to
try that, go to a different room or place in the housse and try practicing,
maybe the karma of your old practice area has changed and you need a
change..
Beware, I work in the Medical Field, some anti-depressants make your hands
shake, defininitely talk with your doctor! and please don't borrow some from
another musician!. I know people do this from time to time and it is not
safe!.
! Your doctor and pharmacist know best.
