Subj: [DR-L] Advice for Musical Touring
Date: Wed, 13 Apr 2005 08:40:16 -0400

Many moons ago, I used to tour nationally with the Goldovsky Opera Institute.
Boris Goldovsky (of Texaco's Met Opera broadcast quizzes) would get up at the
front of the bus before every tour and say (in a thick, high Russian
accent) "Ladies and Gentlemen, we are about to embark on a long tour -
most of you have never met each other, before. Everyone please just
remember RULE 6 for the duration of the trip." Then he would
mysteriously sit down. About 10 minutes later, he'd mischievously get up
and say, "Oh, by the way, RULE 6 is simply: DON'T TAKE YOURSELF SO DAMN
SERIOUSLY!!" This rule has helped me tremendously over my performing
career, as well as occasionally in life, when I can somehow remember it!

Cheers, Jim

artistic; then one day I realized, I'm just DAMN TOUCHY!"
