From: PhilFrei@-----.com Subj: [DR-L] Ranking the oboe etudes Date: Fri, 08 Apr 2005 18:17:30 -0400
Hi -
I was looking through my sets of oboe etudes yesterday. The set by Pasculli
"15 Caprices" is a close rewrite of a set for violin by A. Rode and I have a
photocopy of the intro to the Rode and the first couple violin versions
A line in the intro to a preface to the Rode caught my eye: "his '24
Caprices' [are] still a standard instruction-book, ranking in difficulty just above
the celebrated '42 Etudes' by Kreutzer..."
This led me to wonder, what are the major oboe etudes, and how would we rank
them in difficulty?
Barrett
Brod
Ferling
(Pasculli/Rode) though not as commonly used?
Gillet
Curious if there are other sets folks are using and would recommend.
