I wanted to invite anyone who is interested to a recital in Boulder, CO. =
This is not exactly a bassoon recital; my fianc=E9, Azi Anmahian, is a =
violinist and is giving her Masters Degree recital on Tuesday, April 12, =
2005, at 7:30 pm in Grusin Music Hall at the Imig School of Music of the =
University of Colorado in Boulder. What's the bassoon connection on a =
violin recital, you ask? Together, we are performing the Third Duet from =
Nicolo Paganini's "Tre Duetti Concertanti per violino e fagotto". That's =
right, an original chamber composition for the bassoon by the great =
Paganini. According to the excellent notes that accompany the score from =
Edizioni Suvini Zerboni, Paganini was approached as a young man by a =
Swedish amateur bassoonist who complained of the lack of difficult =
literature for the bassoon. Paganini wrote these three sets of duets, =
and strangely no more were requested by our Swedish bassoonist. I =
suppose what Paganini wrote initially was enough to keep him busy for =
quite some time. ;)

1. Eugene Ysaye, Sonata No. 6, Op. 27
2. Nicolo Paganini, Duet No. 3 for violin and bassoon
Intermission
3. Johannes Brahms, Sonata No. 3 in D minor. Op. 108 for Violin and =
Piano
4. Henri Wieniawski, Scherzo-Tarantella, Op. 16 for Violin and Piano

It should be a great recital, and not just because of the Paganini!
