Hi -

Thanks for the Loree site. When I Googled Loree and Paris, I got over a
thousand hits and the Loree site wasn't on the first half dozen pages.

The site where I got the Duduk "How to..." book follows:

http://www.arpmusic.com/arpshop/?page=shop/flypage&product_id=251&category_id=

They seem like a decent group. The prices are what they are, no shipping or
handling. I think they have all the instruments listed in the last couple days'
emails, but I couldn't vouch for the quality, though they do seem reputable.
I don't know if they are the best prices.

I wonder if the Ney is the same as this Bulgarian flute I heard. I can't
remember what it is called, but it is quite difficult, blown like a bottle with
lots of overblowing involved. It had a really nice timbre. I think it had at
least a few finger-holes, though.

I have the "Last Temptation..." soundtrack. I probably heard the Duduk there
and wondered what it was. I think it was used on a "Buffy the Vampire" episode
also which caught my ear. I managed to catch the producer on a fan website
and asked him what it was, but he could only identify it as an "Arabic flute." I
think I saw a documentary on the DVD for "Gladiator" where they mentioned
getting Gasparyan to play. Sometime about a month ago, I googled Gasparyan and
discovered his instrument was a double reed.

There's another film I hear is quite good that uses the Duduk, "Mt. Ararat"
by A. Egoyan. I'm trying to snag a copy from the local library, but it keeps
getting checked out. Am going to have to resort to putting a hold on it. The
performer is younger than Gasparyan, but seems to have an even wider tonal range,
expressively, as well as being of a very high reputation. I checked out one
of his CD's from the library, but his name slips my mind.

We'll see how the finances are after tax-time, in terms of going through with
a purchase or not.
