Subj: [DR-L] mandrel stuck on reed
Date: Sun, 13 Mar 2005 10:33:09 -0500

Dear All,
I got a problem with the mandrel getting stuck on a reed.

After applying the cotton thread wrapping on to a reed with a mandrel
inserted, I apply nail polish on the wrapping.
Once done, it is very difficult to remove the reed from mandrel as the nail
polish have not dried yet and the wrapping must have caused the reed to
"shrink" tightly to the mandrel. At the same time I need the mandrel for the
next reed.
What is the best way to remove a reed with wet nail polish from a mandrel
safely ? (I use a plier to "push" or "pop" the reed out.. sometimes ok but
usually end up scratching the mandrel or causing a dent on the reed butt
opening..)

thanks all,
simon
