MUTS does not "attach" you to the chair- without even thinking about it,
standing to play a solo can occur, since the 14g rod (made from a bike
spoke) hanging on the oboe just pulls out of the support tube that will
drop down below the chair, still attached by its pad pivot. For
extended standing, one can reverse the aupport tube (hang it on the
oboe) and attach the 14g rod to the waistbelt by a threaded collar (made
from a bike wheel spoke nipple) I provide on a loop of 1" webbing or a
small hollow tube you can attach via a saftey pin or piece of shoelace.
For standing to take a bow, one can leave the oboe rod still within
the support tube (hold the oboe near the waist); our band has this habit
of taking a bow, then sitting down to immediately go into a march.
