The lists are provided as a service by a private corporation, not an
educational institution. The servers, bandwidth, etc. comes out of a
meager income derived from sponsors & web hosting at woodwind.org. The
cost of service exceeds the income; I make up the difference via
donations and by my wallet if necessary. Donations are exactly that -
not required at all, but appreciated.

If I billed a standard rate for the hours I put in to Woodwind.Org and
the maintenance of the lists you'd find that the money received doesn't
come close to covering anyone's salary. At an educational institution or
a large commercial enterprise these costs are "buried" in the annual
expenditures. As a small company they're very exposed. The annual
bandwidth costs alone exceed $3500.00

Since it is a private corporation, no financials are provided. I've been
providing service to the woodwind community for quite some time now, and
those that have dealt with the level of free service on these mailing
lists have been pretty happy overall, I think. They're always personally
attended by me.
