This list has been on my mind, too. For those who haven't tried it, you can
go to http://www.woodwind.org/clarinet/index.html, click the the "bulletin
board" button, which will take you to the clarinet list. Then click on the logo in
the upper left-hand corner of that page, and it will direct you to the oboe
board.
The clarinet board, and its companion Klarinet-L, are very well-patronized,
and provide a wonderful source of information for clarinetists. Woodwind.org
currently houses what used to be Doublereed-L, plus a bulletin board for oboe,
but it is very much under-utilized -- possibly because it is, indeed, difficult
to find. Just be careful not to send html format to Doublereed-L -- it only
accepts plain text messages.
The board at woodwind.org may meet some of the needs that have been discussed
on this list lately.Participants typically are able to provide references to
helpful sites and discuss resources, whether commercial or non-commercial, of
interest to wind players. There is no charge to use either the list or the
board, although there is an annual request for donations (currently in progress).
The clarinet board is moderated, but not with a heavy hand; the Klarinet-L is
not moderated, and can get really wild and wooly -- much more so than the
IDRS list. I understand that the oboe board is not currently moderated. It
doesn't have much traffic at the moment -- could definitely use more!
