Prelude, Bacchanale, and Reverie (1998) - The Prelude creates an=20
atmosphere of calm as it gently interweaves lines between the oboe and=20=
piano. the Bacchanale is intensely driving and rhythmic. The reverie is=20=
a dream reflective of the pleasures of the Bacchanale bringing the=20
piece to quiet close. Duration 11:00 Grade 4.

harmony. Introduction uses hemiola of 6/8 -3/4 while the Pastorale,=20

rubato first section followed by a rhythmic second section. Modal=20

is based in shifting tonality. Duration: 10:00 Grade 3. 2 copies in=20

Recital Duets (Oboe and Trpt.) (2000) - These duets were transcribed=20
from their two tuba version. The seven movement work ranges in=20
expressiveness from fanfares to love duets in a modal language that is=20=
based in shifting tonality. Duration: 10:00 Grade 3. 2 copies in score=20=
format
Serenade (1979) (Ob. and Tuba) - This work is in three continuous=20
sections. the first is a moderate triple meter with occassional meter=20
shifts. The second is a slow 4/4 while the third is an allegro duple=20
meter with diversions to a triple meter feel. This piece has wandering=20=
tonality yet is lyrical. Duration: 7:00 Grade 4. Two scores
Sonatina (1970) (Ob. and Bsn. or Trom) - A slow introduction gives way=20=
to a spritely allegro in the first movement with lots of syncopation.=20
An allegretto in mainly 5/8 with a lot of imitation creates contrast in=20=
the second movement. The allegro final movement is rhythmic and playful=20=
with a short recapitulation of the first movement's slow introduction.=20=
Duration 9:00 Grade 4. Two scores
Sonatina (2000) (Ob. and trpt.) - A slow introduction gives way to a=20
spritely allegro in the first movement with lots of syncopation. An=20
allegretto in mainly 5/8 with a lot of imitation creates contrast in=20
the second movement. The allegro final movement is rhythmic and playful=20=
with a short recapitulation of the first movement's slow introduction.=20=
Duration 9:00 Grade 4. Two scores
Suite (oboe and trpt.) (2000) - This Neo-Baroque suite was written for=20=
Andy Wen and Willie L. Morris III for a performance at the 2000 World=20
Saxophone Congress in Montreal and transcribed for this combination.=20
While the movements are based in tonality, they move freely from key to=20=
key. The movements are modelled after a Baroque suite and treat the two=20=
instruments contrapuntally. Duration 10:00 Grade 4. 2 copies in score=20
format
Summer Suite (1987) (Ob. and Tuba) - This four movement work consists=20
of "Rain Dance", "Garden Serenade", "Harvest Dance" and "Celebration=20
Dance". The movements explore a free use of the twelve tones around a=20
changing tonal center and have interesting counterpoint and rhythm.=20
Duration 8:00 Grade 4. Two scores
Three Celtic Settings (1996) (Ob., Viola, and Trom.) - The first=20
movement is a set of jigs that are combined together in counterpoint.=20
The second movement is a lyrical setting of the air "Give Me Your=20
Hand". The third movement is a set of reels that bring the piece to an=20=
exciting close. Duration: 7:00 Grade 4.
Three Flirtations (2002) (oboe and trumpet, optional English horn and=20
fleugel horn in 2nd movement) - "Three Flirtations" is a musical=20
description of courtship. The three movements are cyclical in that the=20=
recurring descending minor triad "motif of love" occurs in all three=20
movements. "Innocent" is a flirtation between two good friends whose=20
friendship is blossoming into love but they don=92t quite know it. The=20=
movement begins playfully with dotted rhythms and short scale motifs.=20
The "motif of love" appears several times within the playful sections.=20=
Towards the end of the movement, the playfulness becomes tenderer as=20
the couple senses, but is not quite sure that there is something more=20
to the friendship. The playfulness returns, but the movement ends with=20=
uncertainty about the depth of the relationship."Sultry" can be=20
described as a dance of seduction with both parties overtly expressing=20=
their attraction to each other, yet with an air of mystery. The "motif=20=
of love" appears only a few times in this movement as underlying=20
suggestion that the attraction is based on more than the physical. The=20=
movement ends more tenderly than it began therefore reinforcing the=20
underlying love. "Coy" begins with the "motif of love" transformed into=20=
a staccato teasing motif. The more aggressive teasing and playfulness=20
permeate this movement but two lyrical sections that are more innocent=20=
in nature interrupt it. The ending builds in intensity along with the=20
passion of the two lovers but ends with a brief return to the playful=20
ideas . This work is recorded by Harmonie del Sur=A0 on the Emeritus=20
label. Duration 8:00 Grade 4
Three Preludes (1984) (Eng. Hn. and Guitar) - Two slow, rubato preludes=20=
frame a fast, rhythmic, Spanish sounding prelude. All have lyrical=20
melodies and a strong tonal sense. Duration 6:00 Grade 4. Two scores
Two Visions (1970) (High Voice, Ob. and Piano) - The visions of these=20
songs are of nature and thelyricalness and playfulness of the melody,=20
harmony and rhythm create an atmospheric setting. The poems are by=20
David Lubin. While the poems are not haiku poems, the are similar to=20
haiku poetry in their brevity and concentration of thought. Duration=20
4:00 Grade 4. Two scores and oboe part
