Larry:

I can suggest three ways:

1. Using two mics on stands and booms, position one near the middle of the
wing joint;
position the other near the top of the bell. You'll have to set each mic
volume at a different level
(otherwise, the notes in the bottom, when played, will overpower everything
else). When he positions
the mics near the instrument, he should of course, allow enough room to move
while playing.

2. Forrests now sells a great bocal pickup for something like $100. A hole is
drilled into the bocal right
above the bocal nipple and an inexpensive pickup is attached; this can be
plugged directly into an amp,
mixer, or guitar effects boxes.

3. An expensive way, but effective, is to purchase a wireless miking system
from AMT
(http://www.appliedmic.com); they have a 2-mic system that attaches to the
instrument (they didn't
use to feature this system on their website..you had to call and inquire).
