I've found that generally, if I turn the TV volume up, nobody complains
about my oboe playing. And yes, I have gotten some very good practicing
done with the TV on. Made some good reeds that way too.
On many occasions, when touring with my quintet, I've worked it out with
the front desk to practice in a conference room (only once have they tried
to charge me for this). Also I've practiced completely undisturbed for over
an hour in the Traveler's Chapel at the Houston airport--quite lovely!--
