I can't imagine a better bassoon for the money (new or used) than a Fox 240
Renard. One can learn to play on a cheaper Schreiber, but once having become
proficient, will want to move up. If you start with the 240, it can take you
well into college performance, and there are some who play them
professionally.
I use a Heckel, but they are very expensive. Several of my students use the
Fox and some play Moosman.
