I recorded "Saltwater Blues" on my CD "A Tree in Your Ear," hoping to raise
awareness in the oboe world of Yusef Lateef. He was one of the first Jazz
musicians to write and perform works specifically for oboe solo--there are
many gems on his recordings. The other important jazz oboe player is Paul
McCandless, who also has many recordings, both as soloist and with
"Oregon"--terrific musician. Brenda Schumann-Post improvises in a wide
variety of styles on her "Oboes of the World" CD--don't miss her Klezmer
oboe! There are others playing jazz oboe who I've been told are quite good.
Good luck to you!--
