Subj: [DR-L] oboe reedmaking book
Date: Tue, 5 Oct 2004 16:01:52 -0400

A question was posted asking about Joseph Shalita's new e-book on making
oboe reeds. I'm very enthusiastic about it. Even though I think there are a
couple of very good reedmaking books already available, this new book has
an edge over them for several reasons. He writes in a very straightforward,
clear manner. The book has good illustrations that are very helpful. Most
cool are the "sound bites." He has sound clips of a reed crowing at various
stages of the reedmaking process, and this is very insightful. Once you've
bought the book (quite reasonably priced, by the way), he sends out a
monthly newsletter with answers to students' questions.
All in all, a great resource for oboe players of all levels. The website
is: www.makingoboereeds.com--
PS--I don't know Mr. Shalita :)
