Yes; oboe has a lot of back pressure, but trpt has more. I did a short paper
on that in college (30 yrs ago) bc I had stress velopharyngeal incompetence
and plastic surgery to correct it.
So the back pressure shouldn't be a problem for you. Embouchure-wise, your
lips may need strengthening in a couple small spots, but use common sense,
try to get a good full sound, and use a *decent reed* - see if you can get a
couple old but still good ones from an oboe player in your class or school;
if they make them themselves (which they should be doing), offer about $7 -
10 for each. Fingering-wise, if you play piano, and already have some fine
motor coordination, you should be okay. Fingering system similar to
saxophone. Practice, practice, practice! ; )
Instrument care is easy; just swab each time after you play, don't drop it,
don't bend any keys. If a pad falls out, save it so the proper size can be
found, or just replace the pad. Let reeds dry out each time also. Keep them
in a protective tube or case made for reeds.
Feel free to email me privately if you have lots more questions, or to the
list!
Miriam
