Just a thought . . .
If these LPs have any collector value (and they might!), you would probably be better off saving the jackets, boxes, etc., even if they are a mess.
I don't know how you would go about cleaning and preserving the jackets, but I'll bet there is a way, even if you don't want to use them for storage of the discs anymore.
Any librarians or archivists out there who can help?
