Subj: [DR-L] mildew on records
Date: Thu, 23 Sep 2004 11:27:12 -0400

Someone with a moldy basement recently gave me a dozen
excellent LP records from the 1960s: major orchestras, great
symphonies and concertos, etc. Both the jackets and records
themselves reek of mildew. I will probably have to discard all the
boxes and jackets. Is there any way of cleaning records to remove
mildew without causing other damage? I looked at one record under our
kitchen microscope at 30x and could see all sorts of things between
the grooves, but couldn't tell if it was dirt or biological growth.
