For any of you in the Los Angeles area this Sunday, David
Weiss will give a Faculty Recital at the University of
Southern California. He'll be joined by his wife, Alpha
Hockett Walker (piano), Judith Farmer (bassoon), and Jim
Walker (flute). The concert takes place at Newman Hall, on
the USC campus, at 3 pm, September 12th. There is no
admission charge.

The program will feature a world premiere:
Dana Wilson's "Mandala" for oboe and piano, and the west
coast premiere of Wilson's "Whispers From Another Time" for
musical saw and piano. Dana Wilson is an amazing composer,
who is on the faculty of Ithaca College, and is noted for
his writing for wind instruments.

Also on the program:
Madeleine Dring -- Trio for oboe, flute, piano
Mendelssohn - Concertpiece #1 for oboe, bassoon, piano
(arranged from the original clarinet/basset horn version)
Charles F. Hockett - Sonata for Oboe and Piano
Madeleine Dring - Three Dances for oboe and piano
Villa- Lobos -- Aria from Bachianas Brasilieras #5, where
the musical saw takes the humming soprano part, in octaves
with the bassoon playing the cello melody.
+ several other works for both saw & oboe, including a
jazz/Klezmer fusion piece by Dave Leslie.
