From: "Greg Hulse" <job230@-----.com> Subj: [DR-L] REED PROBLEMS PLEASE HELP!! OBOE Date: Thu, 2 Sep 2004 16:31:54 -0400
Dear fellow oboists,
My problem for the last few weeks, but more noticably the pitch of my reeds
tends to sang flat. I have been making modifications to my reeds, (ex.
length, thickness of the heart to tip, length of the windows to the back,
thickiness of the tip, etc.) All with no help. I use glotin cane regular
that i get from forrests and no matter what i do the reed tends to be a
little low. about 5-10 cents to 0. I play a Loree AK model LA12. I know
its a wider cane but the sound I get is nice and round and sweet sounding
but i have to pinch a bit to get the oboe in tune. Now what i mean by
pinching is just a little bit, so it doesnt make the sound pinched, but i
dont want to develop a bad habit my pinching and id like to feel comfortable
while I play. My trouble notes that seem to sag the most are (3rd space C,
2 line G, high Bb above the staff, 5 line F (reg fingering), and middle G
above staff).
Does anyone out in cyber world use glotin cane regular shape, and if so tell
me what you do to get good pitch. If anyone has any suggestions it would be
very greatly appreciated.
PS: Ive been playing for last the 10 years 5 professionally in some
symphonies/bands.
