My first Loree was an early post-WWII (AP)model and it DID have a low
low register. I was terrified of playing 2nd oboe! I was in the Dallas
Orchestra for a year. One of my colleagues had a Laubin that purrrrred
(in tune) in the low register making it a great 2nd oboe. The Loree
(DD) that I have now which I got from Richard Killmer in 1974 has a fine
low register but I am still haunted by the difficulties that were built
into my first Loree. So it sounds like the Lorees have had good pitch
in the low register for several decades!! The old "myth" should die!
