MITCHELL James R. "Jim" Mitchell was born December 31, 1938 in Bellaire,
Ohio, and passed away at Riverside Hospital on Thursday, August 5, 2004. He
graduated from The Ohio State University with top honors, earning dual degrees in
music in 1961. Jim taught instrumental music in the Findlay City Schools for 32
years. Jim was a gifted teacher and well known as a talented oboist who has
performed with numerous orchestras throughout Ohio and the Chicago area. Jim was
preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Stella Mitchell. He is survived
by his sister, Sue; maternal aunts, Bessie, Georgianna, June, and Marylou; and
life partner, Rob Butler. Jim will also be fondly remembered by an enormous
family of dear friends and colleagues. Memorial services in Findlay and
Barnesville, Ohio and Chicago are as yet unscheduled. Interment will be in
Barnesville, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Ohio State
University School of Music Scholarship Fund.
