Subj: [DR-L] Assimilated by the Borg?
Date: Sun, 8 Aug 2004 01:06:25 -0400

Hello, Everyone.

I recently went to Sam's Club and noticed that
they are selling, what looks like, pathetically cheap,
flimsy, Musical Instruments, (flutes, trumpets,
clarinets, etc.), made in China by a company called
"Borg".

Those of you who are familiar with a lot of Sci-Fi
(Science-Fiction), know that the word "cybernetic"
means "robotic" or "computerized.

Sci-Fi writers use the term "Cyborg" to mean a
"CYbernetic ORGanism" or a "robotic human" or
rather a "person with computerized mechanisms
inside them".

On "Star Trek: The Next Generation", "Star
Trek: Deep Space Nine", "Star Trek: Voyager" and
the new series "Star Trek: Enterprise", they took the
term "Cyborg" a step further, and have an entire race
of beings called the "Borg". The "Borg" are people
from thousands of races and species, from across
the galaxy, who have had computers inserted into
their brains and bodies, so that they can all hear each
other's thoughts, no one has any free will, and they
all think with the "Hive Mind" (like a group of bees
working together). They call their group the
"Collective".

Like insects, they are governed by a "Borg Queen".
Only she has any ability to make choices, but rest of
them have NO individuality at all. Their goal is to
take over whole worlds at a time, turning those
captured people into more Borg Drones, and using
all stolen machinery to make more space ships and
computerizes parts to insert into new Drones. When-
ever they attack a star ship or a planet, they always
say, "We are the Borg. You will be assimilated.
Resistance is futile." They "absorb" or "assimilate"
all the knowledge of their victims, and use all the
collected technology to become even more deadly
and dictatorial to all future races that they contact. . . .

And now the Borg are selling TACKY, Poorly
Built, Musical Instruments!

And I thought we had problems dealing with the
Arizona Paranoids Union! Will we ever be safe???
