Here in S. Wisconsin, our water is fairly heavy with calcium and mineral
deposits. After 7 years and no water softener to demineralize water, the
inside of my diswasher is coated, and I have to periodically clean out the
trap on the bottom of about 1/2 cup of mineral deposits about every 4 months
or so.

On light mineralization (such as on glassware), white vinegar works well,
but I wouldn't want to soak my reeds in vinegar - they'd taste pretty yucky
afterward, but maybe one could experiment with a few.

I usually soak my reed cane in distilled water, but not for daily soaking
for practice or performance.

Best reeds to all,
Miriam
