wonder if the Leonard Feather mentioned, is any relative our own List's
Phil??? :-)
Hi Jennifer,
No relation; I did meet Leonard a couple of times and we discussed the
derivation of each "Feather." I received one mention from him in an LA Times
review of a Bill Watrous recording. He passed away several years back.
I'm attempting to write through my jet-lag fog. The convention was awe
inspiring! So many outstanding players. Harold Emert's piece is a wonderfully
enjoyable romp through the music of New York City a few decades back. Some
marvelous improvisitory elements will keep this work sounding fresh.
I wish to second my admiration for Diane Doherty's work. On the closing
concert, she "subbed" for Joey Salvaggio, who had passport problems. In just
two days time, she learned an entirely new oboe concerto!!!
I also want to call special attention to Deithelm Jonas' playing. Without
slighting anyone else's playing, I don't think I have ever heard a wider
variety of colors and expression from the oboe, Bravo Maestro!
Take care,
Phil Feather
