I played a 4th of July Concert today- our conductor gave the true story
of the US Field Artillary March by Sousa, pointing out that it uses the
Army theme (The Caissions keep rolling along....)- turns out the tune
was first written by an Army guy named Gruber but it was not
copywrited. He said it was OK for Sousa to use it. The Hoover vacuum
co used the theme for its sales jingle, - and the story goes that a
Hoover vac salesman came to the Gruber door to sell a vacuum- the wife
pointed out her husband wrote the jingle, and she convinced him to get
her a free vac (-8
