I have a friend (a bassoonist, actually) from England (VERY British)
who lives in Canada, named Francesca and who goes by "Fanny." She's
either on this list or the IDRS list...cannot remember which? Fanny???

I used to call her "Franny" when I first met her and she assured me
that I need suffer no embarrassment at calling her by her "proper"
nickname.

She's the one who insists I do not speak English, but rather American.
She's correct, of course!

So I guess outside of Boosey and Hawkes you're safe with a fanny pack!
