Thank you Meriam. I dont think i ever heard the musical not seen it. Which
CD exactly are you talking about on amazon.com??? I am going to buy it as
soon as i know which one is best. I read one of them was not as good or was
recorded in mono or something like that so i'm a bit confused :0

The reason why i'm interested in it is because of that middle eastern Folk
part. Once i get the cd and hear it I will find out what it is and let you
know for sure. However, as Phil said it might be just a flavor, which brings
me to my main goal of these emails. Sampson and Delilah (Shamshoon and
Daleelah is the arabic way ;) some bits and pieces of Scherezade and a few
Sindbad the sailor (1970's Japanese cartoon) background music pieces are all
"arabic flavored".

If I may say so this is the work of an outsider. Like an English native
speaker speaking Cantonese. You can never really sound like a native
Chinese. Unless one had lived among Chinese people for a avery long time and
spoke Chinese 24/7.
Another example would be non-arab women and(some men even maybe!!) belly
dancing!! They can dance alright. But it's more mechanical like 1 2 3 4 , 1
2 3 4. There is no real feeling to the beat of the "Tablah" drum and the
music. I watched a whole 3 hour belly dancing festival in San Francisco a
few years a go. All dancers were Westerners. The crowed was mesmerized. I
was BORED!!I"m not a real belly dancer but baby I can shake it better than
all of them!!! Ahem Ahem.... ;)

My musical technical terms could be rusty here but all arabic musicians say
the same thing when asked about the difference between arabic and western
music. "It's the quarter note and they (western musicians) don't understand
it!". For those who never heard of quarter note it's the jump from say C to
C# thats being cut in half which produces the quarter note.

However, I AM fascinated with those "Arabic flavors". I love hearing the
product of western composer's interpretation/impressions of the orient
world. I get goose bumbs when i hear them!!

Mark, I might be willing to buy the whole score from you once I hear the
musical!!
