<<<The problem I have with throat vibrato is that it usually is of the =
nanny goat variety - too fast and too shallow. as well as uncontrollable =
for frequency and amplitude.- meaning you can't vary its speed or =
wideness very well.>>>

This is very bad news for me, since I have been playing what may be =
called "throat" vibrato for over a half-century, and have been trying to =
teach it to students for nearly as long.=A0 However, I am pleased to say =
that none of them have the well-known "nanny goat" vibrato, nor have I =
ever been told that I play that way.=A0 Actually, the type of vibrato =
which is often called throat vibrato is more properly and technically =
described as "intensity oscillation" vibrato.=A0 Ironically, the same =
name applies to the type of vibrato=A0referred to by its advocates =
as=A0"diaphragmatic" vibrato.

Quite a few years ago, our colleague Chris Weait, now of Ohio State =
University, did a cineflourographic study which demonstrated fairly =
convincingly that both of these types of vibrato are probably best =
called "laryngeal" vibrato, as that is where the control tends to come =
from, no matter where the player may feel that it originates.

I hope I have correctly characterized Chris' research.=A0 Chris?........
