Actually, I never soak my reeds. I dip them and put them in the box. Then
when I get to the gig they are ready. If I soak them they seem to get too
resistant. The glue is impervious to water as far as I can tell and it
doesn't shrink away from the tube or the wires. I am careful to trim away
the glue from the second wire in those rare cases when I feel I need to
adjust that wire. The mini gun is cheap and so is the glue. Very small
investment to try it.
