I stop wrapping at the end of the cane. I can not see any purpose for
wrapping down to the cork other than the final appearance of the reed. But
I make lots of reeds, and over a lifetime, just think of how much excess
string would have been used up for no good reason, if I were to wrap to the
cork. Spools and spools of the stuff.
