From: D Bogan <dgbogan@-----.net> Subj: [DR-L] Oboe theme from "The Mission" Date: Sat, 20 Mar 2004 18:01:19 -0500
A thread sometime ago on the list brought up the
beauty of the oboe theme from "The Mission", which is
what Jeremy Irons first plays to win over the natives
who murdered his predecessor. I hear that this is much
beloved to play at weddings and has become a popular
piece.
Since it had been 15 years or so since I saw the
movie, I rented it and watched it again today. The
theme is gorgeous and haunting. I am not sure that I
could ever separate it from the accompanying horror
story, though.I might play it in Lent, or for an oboe
friend's funeral, but I DON'T think I could play it
for a wedding! Just my 2 cents, however. I cry at
supermarket openings, after all! (Just kidding)
