Dear Doublereed-l members,

As many of you know, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis will
be hosting a "Bassoon Blowout" concert in honor of Jim Laslie. The
concert will feature a massed bassoon ensemble performing a medley of
famous bassoon passages with the orchestra. All bassoonists are welcome
to come and play in this ensemble!
For those of you who have already registered, music and info will be
sent out very soon. For the rest of you, it's not too late! Please
complete and mail the below registration form asap.
Even if you won't be playing in the ensemble, I hope that many of you
will still be able to join us for a great concert. Details are below;
check out www.philharmonicindy.org for additional info.

Dear Bassoonists:

The Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis is inviting bassoonists to
join us on Sunday, March 28, 2004 at the Pike Performing Arts Center to
perform en masse at a special BASSOON BLOWOUT CONCERT honoring
long-time Philharmonic bassoonist, James Laslie, a great bassoon
loyalist and world-renowned bassoon specialist and repairman.

In addition, our soloist for this concert will be John Wetherill,
principal bassoonist with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra,
performing Mozart=92s Bassoon Concerto in B Flat.

Our multiple bassoonists will assemble on the stage as massed soloists
with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis, performing excerpts
from famous bassoon passages in the symphony repertoire, including
Tchaikovsky=92s Symphony No. 4, Grieg=92s =93In the Hall of the Mountain
King,=94 Entr=92acte from Bizet=92s Carmen, Shostakovich=92s Symphony No. 5
,
Gould=92s American Salute, and others.

After intermission, Professor Doug Spaniol and his Butler Bassoon Gang
will play Michael Daugherty=92s =93Hell=92s Angels=94 for bassoon quartet a
nd
orchestra.

There will be one rehearsal, on Saturday, March 27, from 2:30 - 5:30pm.
(Note change in time.) The concert itself will take place on Sunday,
March 28 at 3 p.m. at the Pike Performing Arts Center. Warm-up is at 2
p.m.
